As I watch the leaves drop on this crisp Autumn day I am reminded of the inevitability of change. I know that this is a difficult time for many people as they witness nature purging itself and moving into its’ early stages of dormancy. It is, after all, our human tendency to see the beauty in the growth and miss the magic in the shedding. We want to grasp our gains and continue to accumulate more, not realizing that this “gripping” compromises the overall well-being and balance of our lives. The state of health of our bodies, minds, and souls literally depends on these mini-cycles of birth, growth, death, and regeneration which exist within the bigger cycles we have come to accept as our life cycle. Could it be that when we resist these mini death and rebirth experiences we actually hasten rather than prevent our aging? Is inflexibility and the failure to adapt to these smaller seasons the true cause of disease and ultimately the decline of our physical being? While it is often uncomfortable to let go, we must if we wish to continue to thrive. You see, shedding serves many crucial roles for us. What we let go of becomes the fertilizer for our continued growth. Our past helps us to create an even more impressive blueprint for new dreams and desires. Purging or stripping down, allows us to get more in touch with our true essence. Who are we at our core? Who are we in our most exposed and vulnerable states? Furthermore, isn’t it easier to travel into uncharted territory without the burden of excess? With less to take care of isn’t it easier to entertain more of the untapped potential within? Unhindered, we can enter into the world of our imagination where we can plant the seeds for new life. Where the human eye sees decay and death a tremendous bustling of activity is occurring. Old life is transforming into new life and we are entering into new dimensions of reality. Look at your life carefully. What must be released now? What relationships, beliefs, habits, jobs and physical clutter needs shedding in order for transformation to happen? Shed, let go, release, eliminate and liberate yourself!
